Low flow enhances pigmentation and lipid reserves but reduces survival in newly settled Acropora digitifera corals

This dataset was collected to assess how flow influences the early post-settlement survival, pigmentation, and lipid content of Acropora digitifera coral recruits. Broodstock colonies were collected from Moore Reef, central Great Barrier Reef, ahead of autumn spawning in February 2022. Following spawning, larvae were cultured and settled onto pre-conditioned concerete settlement substrates. Immediately after settlement, coral spat were placed in experimental flume tanks at the AIMS National Sea Simulator in Townsville. Recruits were maintained under low, moderate, and high flow conditions and monitored through repeated survival counts, pigmentation scoring, imaging, and lipid sampling. The data are analysed to compare survival trajectories, symbiont-related pigmentation development, and lipid content and composition among flow treatments, with the aim of improving understanding of how flow affects early life stage coral survival and physiology.
