Amundsen Science 360 Landscape Imagery Data

This dataset includes photo mosaic, panoramic, and map of the surrounding environment of the ship. These photos were taken at a rate of 5 minute intervals. To have a visual of 360 deg around the vessel, the ship is equipped with three 180 deg AV20185 IP Camera manufactured by the Arecont company. Each camera can produce four photos from each of their four Field Of View (FOV) of 45deg and gives twelve photos for each acquisition. After each acquisition, the acquisition system automatically assembles the 12 photos together to create a 360° panoramic image. The assembling is done based on a template that matches pixels of one photo border to the corresponding pixels of the border of the adjacent photo. Each panorama is assembled according to the exact same pixel correspondence. Once a panorama is assembled, the acquisition system projects the panoramic image on a horizontal plan according to predetermined calibration parameters. Calibration parameters were determined by measuring at different points around the ship the distance between a zodiac (simultaneously taken on the photos) and the ship. The recorded distances are then used for georeferencing the pixels of the panorama on the plan. Geographical coordinates where each photos were taken are included in this dataset. The dataset of 2016 includes photos in Baffin Bay (3080 photos), Beaufort Sea (809 photos), Labrador Sea (3759 photos), Nares Strait (810 photos), Northwest Passage (3416 photos), and Saint-Lawrence Gulf (192 photos). The dataset of 2017 includes photos in Baffin Bay (3637 photos), Hudson and James Bay (2027photos), Labrador Sea (8451 photos), Northwest Passage (7175 photos) and Saint-Lawrence Gulf (2693 photos). The dataset of 2018 includes photos in Baffin Bay (781 photos), Hudson and James Bay (16165 photos), Labrador Sea (7783 photos), Northwest Passage (1264 photos) and Saint-Lawrence Gulf (1228 photos). The dataset of 2019 includes photos in Baffin Bay (30185 photos), Labrador Sea (41477 photos), Nares Strait (9257 photos), Northwest Passage (14261 photos) and Saint-Lawrence Gulf (2980 photos).
