Monitoring of Invasive Plant Species in the Wetlands of the St. Lawrence River

Environment Canada has established a database listing the presence of invasive plant species in coastal wetlands on the North Shore. Thus, 15 species are targeted by the monitoring: Giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum), Flowering rush (Butomus umbellatus), Water chestnut (Trapa natans), Frogbit (Hydrocharis morsus-ranae), Myriophyllum morsus-ranae, Eurasian Water-milfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum), Common Reed (Phragmites australis), Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica), Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), Reed Canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea), Alder buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula), Yellow iris (Iris pseudoacorus) and Great yellowcrest (Rorippa amphibia), including 3 species added in 2020, namely: Water soldier (Stratiotes aloides), Curled pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) and Brittle Naiad (Najas minor). The mandate given to the Comité ZIP Côte-Nord du Golfe was to verify the potential presence of invasive plant species by carrying out a floristic inventory of 11 coastal wetlands on the North Shore. The follow-up is still carried out to date.
